Haus Properties gives Britain’s ‘most hated’ profession a run for its money

Haus Properties (www.hausproperties.co.uk), a new concept in estate agency set up by former Apprentice candidate, Jamie Lester, is set to turn the most ‘hated profession’ on its head. Haus Properties prides itself on a distinct approach to buying, selling or renting with its free removal service (they will pack and move vendors as part of their fee), ‘open-book’ technology and video view of all properties prior to a viewing.

Jamie Lester, the brain-child of Haus Properties, set up the business earlier this year (2011) to change the face of estate agency, with a strong desire to transform people’s perception of the industry by offering a superior type of service. Jamie is no stranger to a challenge after appearing in the 2010 BBC Apprentice show. He comments: “Appearing on The Apprentice was a life-changing experience which spurred me onto to set up my own estate agency, having started out in the business as a Saturday job whilst I was at school. I couldn’t believe that so little had changed in estate agency over the years - although some agencies are becoming more sophisticated, the large majority are terribly dated. I’ve thrown out the clichés and instead, offer a completely open and honest approach to buying, selling and renting property in South West London.”

The first branch of Haus Properties has recently opened in Fulham, South West London, with a further office in Chiswick set to open in the Spring. Everything about Haus is different and fresh, from its beautiful ‘home-styled’ office, lifestyle-led property details to its ‘open book’ log in for vendors who want to keep tabs on what’s happening with their property. Where Jamie really wanted to add value was by offering vendors a full removal service; once Haus sells the property, they will pack and move the seller to their desired location at no extra cost.

Jamie adds: “It astounds me that in this day and age, so little is being done to enhance the service for what is a massive lifestyle change for buyers, sellers and tenants. The whole moving experience can be incredibly daunting, so our aim is to take all the hassle out of moving, including the physical move itself. We also make the whole buying and selling process even more transparent. For sellers, we offer an invaluable ‘open book’ service; a unique technology which enables customers to log-in to a diary that shows what’s been happening to their property – how many viewings it’s had, client feedback, as well as a clever tool that demonstrates what the competition is up to, i.e. how long a property has been on the market for and what it sold for. You'd think all estate agents would offer this service, but they really don't. In most cases, you have to ask or beg for this type of information or just assume they're getting on with it.”

At Haus Properties, even the property details are different, including comments from the current vendors or tenants to give a real idea of what the property is like to live in. Photos don’t always do a property justice which is why each and every sales property is videoed showing details from doorknobs to fireplaces, so potential buyers can get a feel for the house before viewing.

Haus Properties offices are designed around the concept of the home, and the fact that the kitchen is the heart of the home. The Fulham office has an open-plan layout with a traditional farm-house style kitchen table as the focal point, there’s a comfy arm chair, book shelves and paintings from local artists donning the walls, all of which create a homely and relaxing atmosphere. Jamie adds: “We want people to feel at home when they come in to see us, and as our business is all about property, it made absolute sense to create a home from home. The kitchen table has an in-built magnetic local area map, so we can sit and chat with people over a cup of coffee and use the table to pin-point streets and houses.”

Haus Properties has a six strong team, all skilled in estate agency with experience ranging from 2 to 40 years. The team are all locals too, so they can give useful advice on local schools to the best restaurants in the area.
