The Lion House
One of Fulham's most treasured emblems are a group of stone animals that may have slipped your notice. Have you ever strolled around Fulham, meandered down the Wandsworth Bridge Road and found yourself on The Peterborough Estate?
Welcome to the pride of Fulham.
The Peterborough Estate was built on the grounds of Peterborough House by Mr. J Nicholls in the 1890's .The first houses were advertised around the time of June 1899 for the sum of £300. It was noted that the first houses were smaller than subsequent properties, due to their popularity the houses began to grow in both size and price. Nowadays the Lion Houses can reach and exceed up to £3 million.
There are around 930 lions in this part of Fulham and they have now taken on an indentity of their own, symbolic of prosperity and elegance. Considering the history of the estate it is no surprise that Lion Houses are amongst the most sought after properties in West London.
So next time you are in the area, why not go on a lion hunt?!
